Thank you

what much can you afford?

Boston University
Case Western

Binghamton is a great choice! Consider also New Paltz (they have majors in accounting, finance, general business, international business, marketing, and management), Geneseo (accounting, business administration) and Stony Brook (which has a business management major as well as the option to earn an MBA in 5.5 years). Also consider CUNY-Baruch College, which is a business-focused college that offers majors in accountancy, economics, finance, international business, management, marketing management, statistics and quantitative modeling, and real estate.

I’d say your chances look pretty good at all of your schools, honestly, especially the SUNYs, Hofstra, Bryant, and Bentley.

Thanks

Since I live in downstate NY, do you think Albany is a good alternative to Binghamton or is there a better SUNY alternative

I would recommend. Kelley school at Indiana university

Sent from my Desire HD using CC

I’d look into Fordham as well. And I think Binghamton is more highly regarded than Albany although both are good choices.

Much will depend on how much your parents will pay.

The OOS publics listed will not give you aid if you need such.

The privates mentioned don’t give great aid either.

A 1250 Math + CR is not high enough for merit scholarships at the listed schools (at least not much) and it’s not high enough for a “preferential” FA pkg at the NEU or Hofstra.

Unless your parents will pay for Fordham, that won’t be affordable either. They don’t give great aid, and your stats aren’t high enough for merit.

So…have you asked your parents how much they’ll pay each year? If not, do so. That answer will LARGELY determine where you should apply and where you’ll be able to afford to go to college.

**National Buckeye Scholarship requires 1260 or higher on SAT or ACT 28 or higher in which, unfortunately, OP is *10 points short/I.

**National Buckeye Scholarship for non-Ohio residents **

Award amount

$12,000 ($48,000 four–year value)

Criteria

Ohio State is committed to enrolling a diverse and talented student population. The National Buckeye Scholarship is awarded on a competitive basis to non-Ohio students required to pay the out-of-state surcharge who are admitted to the Columbus campus for autumn semester.
Capstone Scholar

An out-of-state first-time freshman student who meets the December 1st scholarship priority deadline, has a 27 ACT or 1210-1240 SAT score [critical reading and math scores only] and at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA will be selected as a Capstone Scholar and will receive $1,500 per year ($6,000 over four years).

Binghamton School of Management admissions are very competitive. Albany a little less so, Stony Brook, a little more less so. But Binghamton is a reallly good school and many top-notch companies recruit their graduates. There’s a 5-year BS-MS in accounting that lets you sit for the CPA exam after 5 years.

Actually, since he has a 1250, he’s qualified for the next larger scholarship at Bama…

COLLEGIATE SCHOLAR

An out-of-state first-time freshman student who meets the December 1st scholarship priority deadline, has a 28-29 ACT or 1250-1320 SAT score [critical reading and math scores only] and at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA will be selected as a Collegiate Scholar and will receive $3,500 per year ($14,000 over four years).

But he should retest and take the ACT to have a chance at the bigger scholarships.

Bama has a very good B-school…Culverhouse College of Commerce.

Any thoughts on the business school at UMASS Amherst?

No info on UMass but will chime in on some of the schools on your list. They all have very good business programs. In the end your choice will come down to many factors unique to you such as fit, feel, cost, size, distance, urban vs non urban, male/female ratio, greek vs non greek, etc etc. We are also from NY and looked at schools with good business programs 2 yrs ago for D. We have a low efc so need/merit aid was essential. This was our experience based on our circumstances:

Northeastern: did not apply. This was the visit that convinced D she was wanted a more traditional non urban campus experience.

Bryant: Accepted. $20k in merit aid. A tad too small and didn’t offer enough alternatives in case D decided to switch out of business.

Bentley: Accepted, $18k merit aid. For some reason D not impressed…bigger than Bryant but also not enough fallback in case she decided to switch majors. Not affordable for us anyway.

Binghamton (SOM): Accepted. zero aid. great school, great rep, instate tuition. a little big for D’s taste and a little too far from home. D not enamored with the campus.

U Richmond: Accepted: offered the most need based aid. Great school, great rep, pretty campus. A little too small and way too far from home.

Lehigh: Accepted: D knew this was the school for her from the moment she stepped on campus. We lucked out in that they offered almost the same need based aid as U Rich. Good size, good location/distance from home, beautiful campus. Wound up costing us less than half of what Binghamton would cost. We couldn’t have been more fortunate. The school D loved the most made it possible for her to attend with their generous aid. She is now a soph on the accounting track and couldn’t be happier.

I should note that with the exception of Bentley (and I still can’t figure out why) D could have seen herself going to any of these schools if Lehigh didn’t come thru. For the record her stats were 1340/2050; 31ACT. 98.5gpa, 7ap’s.

Again…they are all good business schools that will appeal to different applicants for different reasons. Suggest you cast a wide net and make sure to visit each campus. If you are like my D you’ll know which one is for you when you see it. Hope it works out for you like it did with D. Good Luck.

My son has a weighted average of 102.5, SAT of 1870 and a good well rounded resume. He’s been told that SOM is so competitive, he might get rejected and should consider applying for regular admissions. Also, if he doesn’t get into SOM, they don’t’ consider the application for general Binghamton admissions. I think he’d rather go to Binghamton for possibly Economics, than not get into the college at all. I think he should take the risk and apply to SOM because its such a good program and he has a great average- but he’s concerned. Any suggestions or thoughts on his chance of admission to SOM?

drake university
bradley university (dorms look a little below average)
