Looking for pro/cons - Aerospace Major - WPI vs Clarkson Honors

She is all over the place. LOL. She applied to 5 large universities and 3 smaller ones with WPI being the smallest. It was down to about 5 schools and then 4 for awhile. She just took RPI off and is down to WPI, Purdue - Honors and ASU - Barrett Honors, all for engineering. She mainly had large schools as she wanted to have options outside of engineering and lots of sporting events to go to and clubs to join. She isn’t a partier, but wants a lot of options.

But there is something about WPI that she is really drawn to. The curriculum, the quarter system, the kids seem down to earth and not crazy competitive. The Robotics really seemed to interest her there too. She liked the walkability of the campus and the grittiness of Worcester. My gut is telling me she will be going there.

We leave to visit ASU next week. We already did Purdue twice. Love the school, but with no aid, it the most expensive of the three. And it isn’t a direct admit to Aero. She has to apply in for sophomore year. Hopefully she has a decision by this time next week.

Good luck with your decision!

NewSR1, I would never go to a college where it wasn’t a direct admit. A little slipup freshman year and your toast. Don’t get the department you want and if you were to transfer to another college, the financial aid is iffy at best for many transfer students.

My daughter went to WPI and really liked the college. The shorter terms meant that whenever she came home for break, she didn’t homework or projects due. She could totally relax and gather herself for the next term. She made a lot of friends and her close group of friends still get together for skiing trips, BBQs, etc. five years after college.

@debbie414 - what did he pick? My daughter picked WPI

@NewSR1 - after a very grueling process he went with Clarkson Honors

@debbie414 Congrats to him. I thought it was going to be really tough too. Once she decided though, she seemed quite sure. A big weight lifted off her chest. I hope he has a great freshman year!
