I'm wondering what schools are still open for application in the Boston/Greater-Boston area. I'm asking on behalf of a friend who just wants to pick a couple of schools in that general area in case she does not make Boston University. Do you know of any colleges/universities that still take applications right now?

Cambridge College has rolling admissions.
Framingham State College’s deadline is May 15.
Lasell College also has rolling admissions.
Lesley University has rolling admissions.
Massachusetts Maritime Academy has rolling admissions.
Mount Ida College has rolling admissions.
The New England Conservatory of Music has rolling admissions.
Newbury College has rolling admissions.
Pine Manor College has rolling admissions.
Simmons College’s deadline is April 1.
University of Massachusetts-Boston’s deadline is June 1.
Wentworth Institute of Technology has rolling admissions with a priority deadline of May 1.
Wheelock College has rolling admissions.
Worcester State College’s deadline is June 1.

Not too sure about the legitimacy of most of these colleges, but I know that Wheelock and Lesley are solid schools, Simmons is a good women’s college, and Pine Manor is a bad women’s college.

Suffolk’s deadline is past, as is Northeastern’s.

juillet beat me too it. Wentworth is pretty legit for engineering, I think it’s about 80% men but right in the city. Mount Ida is a joke and in a suburb a few T stops away from Boston. Mass Maritime is decent. Lesley is solid, lots of education majors and just switched in the past few years to being coed. Simmons is solid as well. Newbury is OK, they’re very accommodating for students with IEP’s. UMass Boston is kind of a joke.

Some of the schools on the list are former junior colleges (Mt Ida, Lasell, Pine Manor). Of the others that don’t require a special talent (music) or special interest (engineering, merchant marine), Simmons is reputedly the best. By quite a large margin. Thirty years ago, people used to speak of “Simmons and Wheelock” together, but the latter seems to have fallen from view a bit, while Simmons has risen, particularly in things like Early Childhood Ed. (At least that’s what I hear.)

I have a friend at Mass Maritime, and have heard a lot of stories from her. You really only want to go there if you want a military college experience. They don’t play around. And if you don’t want to go into the merchant marine or otherwise go to sea, there’s not that much point.

Cambridge College is geared toward non-traditional students.

Wentworth, Simmons, and Lesley are all solid, though they target different student interests (e.g. Wentworth = engineers). I don’t know much about the others on the list.

If you’re from california like your status says, and your friend is also a californian, I don’t think any of the above mentioned schools are worth moving to the other side of the country for.

This from a coloradan currently at Northeastern.

northeastmom: Lesley seems to advertise more heavily for its grad programs (I always see their ads on the T), but they do have undergrad programs. They are mostly arts/humanities/social science-oriented.

mcvcm92: you obviously don’t know too much about universities in the northeast…or dare i say in the U.S.
putting northeastern and suffolk in the same category?
northeastern a safety if the target school is BU?
i say this with a bit of bias of course but your giving northeastern far less credit than it deserves
for one…NU is more selective than BU currently…check out the average stats of accepted students
ok so BU is higher in the US news report rankings but NU is a tier 1 school as well
and if you compare the schools major vs major NU is stronger in a lot of fields
for example the business school (which i am now part of) is ranked #27 while BU’s undergrad Business school is ranked #44
its pharmacy and computer science schools are in the top 20 national
so i suggest you do your homework before typing inaccurate information
