EA: Northeastern University (really big on this), UMass Amherst, and University of Virginia
ED (maybe): JHU or Northwestern?
RD: Bowdoin, BU, Colby, New York University, Brandeis, Carnegie Mellon.

I think most of these schools would accept you, but Northwestern might be out there. Your lowish gpa is really whats holding you back. Make sure you highlight your individual qualities, and stand out from the rest with your essays, but you seem to have a healthy extracurricular life which might just be the thing that put you over the edge. Oh, University of Virginia, and Colby might be tough too. I go to a very competitive charter school, it’s actually a top 50 high school in the nation, and the average accepted gpa to virginia is 5.4, it’s very competitive. Although, you said your high school was competitive as well so the reputation of the school may carry you, but it’s kind of a double edged sword because with the reputation comes the kids that make it. It becomes much more challenging to stand out from the crowd at competitive high schools. Best of luck!

UVA’s a reach, because they’re all about GPA.
UMASS is a safety
Northeastern-high match
Colby-reach
Bowdoin-high match
BU-high match
NYU-high match

I agree with some of the above, but I’m not sure how Colby is a reach, but Bowdoin a high match…? I feel more likely that the reverse would be more true. UVAs gonna be a fair reach, even EA, and won’t be much help with the money, being out of state and all…we shall see how it plays out!

Got tons of views…just want a few more opinions before I’m satisfied, das all. Will chance back. Bump!

last bump before I basically give up on this thread for good, thank you all for your gracious help and input! Again, chance me and I’ll chance back…!

I think you would def be able to get into NYU, Northeastern, Brandeis and UMass. I would really work on your GPA by doing well your first semester of senior year. If you get better grades than before colleges will like that (they like to see you’re getting better and better). Not sure about the others but good luck!

Other than your GPA, you have an outstanding application! You have incredible ECs and that should help you a lot. The research you did could be very helpful, and your ECs can make up for what is lacking in GPA to some extent. So here are my chances for you:

Northeastern University- match/high match
UMass Amherst- safety
University of Virginia- low reach
JHU (ED/RD)- low reach/reach (I would do ED here if I were you, better chances. But don’t do ED if it isn’t your number one choice)
Northwestern (ED/RD)- low-mid reach/reach
Bowdoin- reach (those kids there are super smart)
BU- match/high match
Colby- reach
New York University- match/high match
Brandeis- match
Carnegie Mellon- low reach/reach

Good luck! You’ll get into somewhere you want to go!

Side note: I responded directly to what you said on my chance thread, so it would be great if you could take a look at that.

I really like your sports activities; that is probably the strongest part of your application. Other than that, your EC’s may be a little thin, but still solid.
If possible, maybe take SAT subject tests for your languages? It’s a way you can prove your multi-lingual talents to colleges.

GPA is probably your weak point, but SAT is decent for these schools.

I think your are at most high match for these schools, 'cept for JH, Northwestern (mid-reach)

Good luck, and I’d love to hear how you do in the spring :D

It sounds like although your GPA isn’t stellar, you are a very passionate student so I would recommend interviewing! Interviewing is amazing for students you have great ECs but not so great stats.

Brandeis- high match
Northeastern- high match
Umass- Likely
BU- match
NYU- low reach
Carnegie Mellon- reach
UVA- reach
JHU- reach
Northwestern- high match

I’ve noticed you’ve been giving some great feedback and I’d really appreciate it if you could chance me back :)

I’m def going to interview! I love talking to people, and it tends to show (apparently).
I’m flattered on your feedback comment, I’ll try what I can.

-One thing I noticed was your “high match” for NWU…even early, I think I’d have a better shot going early to JHU, even with my nonexistent GPA. Man, it sucks…

Thanks for your chance!

I’ve added a few schools on my list to think about, mainly because of their strong, accelerated med programs: RPI, UConn, and Tufts.

I’m also applying to BU’s accelerated med program, and NEU’s PharmD program, but those colleges were on my original list of schools I was considering.

Worth mentioning that I’ll apply to diversity programs of the schools on my list: Colby, Bowdoin, Brandeis and Tufts. Even if I don’t get in to said programs, it shows “interest” in those universities that might play into my hands comes judgement day(s).

I agree with everyone that even though your scores aren’t the best, your EC’s and AWESOME!!! I say all of these schoolss are Low reaches/Matches. Make sure your essays and your applications are STELLAR and you have a great chance! Good luck!!

You have pretty good test scores and ECs, but your GPA seems to be holding you back.

Colby: Match
Brandeis: High match
Northeastern: Match
Umass: Safety
BU: High Match
NYU: High Match / Low Reach
Carnegie Mellon: Reach
UVA: Low Reach
JHU: Reach
Northwestern: Reach

Colby: Match
Brandeis: High-ish Match
Northeastern: Low Match
Umass: Low Match/Safety
BU: Match
NYU:High Match/Low Reach
Carnegie Mellon: Reach (the gpa really brings you down; sat, as it is right now, doesn’t look too good for mellon, but if you can get it up into the 2200s you’re improving your chance significantly)
UVA: High Match
JHU: Reach
Northwestern: High Reach

Thoughts: I’d play into your interest to pursue chemistry even after failing it in an essay if I were you.

Northeastern University (really big on this)- sure match
UMass Amherst- match
University of Virginia- decently good match
JHU, Northwestern- both solid reach ED, less so RD but I’d go for one ED if I were you, they’re both great schools.
Bowdoin- mid reach
BU- low reach
Colby- low reach/match
New York University- low reach
Brandeis- low reach
Carnegie Mellon- low reach

Like what everyone else said, the GPA Is your largest weakness, your EC’s are great and you know multiple languages (something I think colleges like).
If you can show colleges in your essays why your GPA is like that maybe you have a good chance into getting there.

(I really do not know how hard those schools are but this is purely based off a comparison to my schedule)

Bumping this back up (yes, I said I made my last bump a few days ago. Flip/flop) for some help on some schools tacked onto my list, as I’m wondering how hard it is to get into certain 7-year med programs.

Thinking of:
Tufts 7-year med (applying to voices of Tufts now, which should put plight on my app regardless of whether I get in or not)
Rice 7-year med
UMiami 7 year med
RPI 7 year med
UConn 7 year med

All of which are most probably applied to RD.

I do need help, as I have no clue just how tough it is to get into said programs. I’ll also take chances to get into just the schools themselves…anything. I do chance back to the best of my abilities, so leave a link if you want! Thanks!

JHU, Carnegie Mellon, Northwestern, UVA: I think these are reaches, but not high reaches. Your class rank is pretty high, and that helps out with the GPA issue a lot, if you ask me.

NYU, Colby, BU: I think these are matches.

I haven’t looked into the others much, but best of luck to you!
