What is life like at Tufts? What do students do for fun? Do they mainly stay on campus or venture off? What is the surrounding area like? Are the academics cutthroat, so much so that free time is rare? What do you think is the best thing about Tufts and what do you think the worst is?
Thanks so much!
Haha sounds like you need material to write your “Why Tufts?” essay
Actually, I am a junior, and I’m trying to find out whether Tufts is a good fit for me. Your comment was unnecessary and it would have been much better if you had just said nothing, or better yer, actually answered the questions.
Parent of a recent grad. Students do all kinds of things for fun, though my son said they didn’t hang around playing video games enough. There is a small frat scene if you want to party, tons to do in Cambridge and Boston, and lots of stuff going on on campus. (To get an idea, explore the website or read the campus newspaper.) A fair amount of talking about politics. Surrounding area is residential middle class housing with a fair number of student rented houses thrown in. Shops, college oriented restaurants and Starbucks are at Davis Square about a ten minute walk away. Academics are not cut-throat, but there are some courses that require huge amounts of work. My son took Arabic (very difficult and teachers teach more content than most other colleges according to son who was able to compare when he took a junior year abroad.) My son also took EPIIC http://www.tuftsgloballeadership.org/program/epiic a unique very interesting course with huge amounts of reading. The group that take the course any year becomes a close-knit group of friends as they collaborate to deal with it and also because they work together to organize a conference on the year’s topic in the spring. Global leadership and active citizenship are big values at Tufts. I think my son would say his favorite thing are the professors and his least favorite are the administration.
