Looking for the numbers behind the numbers of college admissions

When one looks at the statistical data provided by colleges via sources such as USNWR, Collegeboard and the many college guidebooks that are published annually, the information provided is usually done for the institution as a whole. But many colleges have their own nooks and crannies which translate into different admissions standards within a single university. For example, colleges may have separate colleges for engineering, education, music, etc or some niche area, like Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration or some lesser known affiliate of the college, like Emory’s relationship with Oxford College of Georgia. As a result, some colleges may be easier to get into than is generally recognized while certain areas of a college may be considerably more difficult, eg, Wharton at U Penn or engineering at a major public like U Illinois.

In an attempt to inform others about the admission differences/standards that exist within a colleges, please post any knowledge you have about intra-institutional differences that might benefit an applicant in gauging his/her chances for admission.

Great idea for a thread.

Bumping up a hawkette thread; #1 ranked majors are usually more difficult to enter. JHU BME
