I’m a junior, currently working on my applications list. The issue is, that my mom insists that I go to a Christian college… I’m not a Christian, which makes it a pretty annoying requirement, but so far she won’t budge.
So I’m looking for the right Christian college in which I’ll be able to have a good experience. My criteria are:
A place that's not too conservative, and where people are accepting of people with different beliefs.
Acollege that offers an engineering program, preferably in mechanical or electrical eng.
A diverse college.
If anyone knows of any colleges that fit the bill, please reply… Thank you!
Does Christian mean non-denominational? Do you have a choice, such as the possibility of mainline Protestant sects (Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian) or even Catholic?
This list is a bit dated, but might be a good place to start. There are some reputable schools (many sects) on it like Baylor
Pepperdine and Biola have 3/2 programs for engineering. So does St. Olaf. I know somebody doing his pre-med course at Biola and he has had a very good experience.
You might want to add Calvin College to your list–although w/ fiscal difficulties they’ve gutted the humanities departments, the engineering program is still quite strong. There are required religion classes, but daily chapel is optional.
I recently visited Westmont College and Point Loma Nazarene University and they were both incredible. Awesome locations and facilities and great overall atmosphere. Not sure of the strength of their engineering programs, but they do both have them. They are both very Christian-- with required courses and chapel and overall feel.
Concordia University Irvine may be a good fit for you. Concordia is a Christian university that is diverse and accepts people from all beliefs. CUI offers a Mathematics major that has a Pre-Engineering Program or a Physics major. I will attach the school website for you so that you can take a look into it: www.cui.edu
If “Christian” means “mainstream Protestant or Catholic”, you should be fine.
If “Christian” means “evangelical protestant” or means something specific, can you specify?
