Looking to transfer from georgetown to amherst

I was just wondering if a 3.65 at Georgetown University is good enough to get into amherst, given that I have good essays, ec’s, and recommendations.

In general, top LACs will enroll only a handful of transfer students in any given year. The sample sizes are so small that it's hard to predict what the acceptance criteria might be. However, it's clear that the top LACs can afford to be extremely selective in this regard.

These are small schools to begin with, and they typically have very low attrition rates, so there may be only a few available slots for transfers in any given year. And there is usually a lot of competition for each slot, so the transfer acceptance rates tend to be very low.

According to collegeboard, Amherst had 276 transfer applicants last year, and accepted only 18. That's a transfer acceptance rate of just 6.5% -- well below their regular acceptance rate of 18%.

hmmmmmmmmmmm

Just curious...what is it about Georgetown that makes you want to transfer...and why Amherst for you?

Could be worse. Bowdoin accepted only 6 of 182 transfer applicants last year, for an acceptance rate of 3.3%.

The exact numbers, while typically low, undoubtedly fluctuate from year to year. In some years, a LAC may have a higher than expected yield, resulting in a larger-than-usual class, with little or no room for transfers. In other years, the yield for a particular class may be lower than average, so more room for transfers.

The collegeboard stats suggest that some New England LACs are much more accomodating to transfer students than others. Examples might include Wesleyan, Trinity, Smith, and Mt Holyoke.

Yeah, why would you want to leave G-town for Amherst? You're already at an outstanding school. Better yet, you're in a superior location. What's not to like?

the amherst transfer rate could be even worse than it might appear b/c of the community college agreement they have. not sure, just stating..

Yep, 10/22 transfers enrolling this year are from CC.

thanks kwu, very good to know, bowdoins rate just looked a little better haha
