<p>Hi everyone, thanks for reading :)</p>
<p>Here's my condition: I have inherited stomach conditions since I was young, and these recent years, due to some family issues and some emotional pressure, my overall condition got worse and I had to visit the hospital on a regular basis, sometimes staying home for an extended period of time.
My absences due to sickness, combined with my other absences (field trips, etc.) total about 30 something absences for the school year of 2008-2009.
I managed to get a GPA of about 3.6 (with AP+GT courses), getting 2 Bs for sophomore year and most likely 1 B for this year. I would think that compared to the average nationwide, the amt of my extracurricular activities (including 2 internships and lots of volunteer activities besides school clubs) are about the same. My family issues are settling down, my doctor told me that I should be getting better gradually, so if I am to be given another year in high school, my attendance definitely wouldn't be as bad. But how can I show that I'm getting better? If I were to explain, would I be asked to show my medical records or a doctor's note? I also know that I can take an advantage of this and write a good essay. But to tell the truth, I'm very hesitant on those moves because I think that they will all, in some aspects, highlight my weakness as an applicant. I'm sure that lots of students nationwide have conditions that prevent them from participating in school-related activities, so I don't want to sound like I'm "whining", especially when I have never regarded my condition as something that makes me "different" from everyone else.
I just want to do my thing and show the colleges that I am as good an applicant as others, which is something that I really do believe. I'm from maryland and i'm looking at colleges such as College Park (confident about this one), Gtown, Upenn, UVA and other business schools on the east coat.
A teacher at my school recently discouraged me. I applied for an internship through the school, she told me that I was an excellent candidate overall, but because of my attendance records she cannot accept me into the program right away. I explained my condition (physical and emotional) to her, she asked me to wait until June so she can look at my attendance record again and decide on my acceptance. Would colleges do the same thing?... I'm very worried :(</p>
<p>Thanks guys! That was a long post... :D</p>
