Low 6-year graduation rate?

CMU has the lowest 6-year graduation rate (86%) of the USN&WR top 25 national universities. I wonder why.

CFA. The arts programs are designed to weed people out and since it’s art school, if you leave your transferring options at CMU are a little limited.

I don’t think people should be that concerned about this - like the poster before me said, the arts program definitely lowers the acceptance rate. At a lot of top tier art schools (including CMU) many of the best artists (especially theater and dance) end up not graduating because jobs present themselves, and it’s better to go to work then stay in school. A school like MIT doesn’t have artists leaving for broadway, thus their rate is higher.

I imagine CMU also suffers a bit from the problem where their financial aid isn’t fantastic, so if a family could barely afford it freshman year, by the time later years roll around it could just be too much money. Finances are one of the most common reasons for students to have to leave school.
