Low ACT/SAT

Hey, all!

Thank you for taking time to look at my post--I really appreciate it! I know GU requires all test scores to be submitted, and mine are less than amazing, so I was wondering what you guys thought my chances were and what you think I can do to make myself a stronger candidate.

SAT: 1890 (First Time), 1950 (Second Time)
ACT: 21 (First Time--I know it's low, I was sick in many ways the first time I took it), 29 (Second Time), and 35 (Third Time)
SAT II: Will take these in December, but here are the scores my practice indicates: US History: 800, French: 720, Math II: 720.
APs: APUSH-5, AP Comparative Gov-5, AP Lang&Comp-3, AP Micro-2

Here is my other information:
Unweighted GPA: 3.845
Weighted GPA: 4.69
Class Rank: 23/581
Percentile: Top 3.89%

ECs

Founder and officer of Newspaper
Founder and co-president of Model United Nations
Co-chairwoman (president) of History Honor Society
Co-chairwoman (president) of History Club
Co-President of National Technical Honor Society
State Vice President of Promotion for a UNC-held institute
Former officer and current social media correspondent of DECA

******For my "Co" positions, should I put Co-President or change it to President? I'm most likely leaving it as "Co" because that's what I'm most ethically comfortable doing, but some of the people who I share this position with are putting just president, so I'm a bit unsure of what to do.

Five underclassman academic awards in freshman year
AP Comp. Gov Outstanding Student Award
Various DECA schoolwide awards

Essays

Common app on background of child abuse and my new adopted home. My goal is to present my story in the least whiny way--I know I haven't been through anything compared to other people, but I want to share this story to explain my passion for academics.

Recs

Counselor rec and teacher rec were excellent

ALSO: When GU says it wants all test scores, does that mean we can submit all ACT and not at all SAT, or does that mean we have to do both? Sorry, I’m kind of on my own with a lot of this process!

You should submit all scores. They will use the highest ones, but you want to give them the fullest context. A 35 is a very strong ACT score. Also those projected SAT IIs are pretty good…

Keep in mind that Georgetown doesn’t look at the writing portion of the SAT, so you should only look at Math and Verbal when evaluating your scores for GU.

On the “Co-” thing, honesty is the best policy. Besides, being president/chair of like 6 things suggests that you can’t possibly be devoting that much time to any of them - only so many hours in a day…

I think your essay about the personal challenges you’ve faced - which hopefully your counselor has also touched on - should contextualize your standardized test scores and grades in a way that is to your benefit. Good luck!
