low/bad Cumulative GPA

My CGPA is a 3.063, before this semester it was a 2.97. I will have 63 hours after Spring semester. Am I totally doomed with that GPA? Is it possible to bring it up to a 3.4 or 3.5 by the time I graduate? I have to go to grad school, preferably for Clinical/Counseling Psychology and at my school the program entrance GPA ranges from 3.0-3.3. Honestly, how bad is my GPA? This semester I worked my butt off as I have had a ton of drama: Active in eating disorder, depression, mom got divorced, mom and sister moved in with grandma, mom does not have a job, loan for Spring was revoked but I scraped by to pay for it, and my dog was put to sleep. My classes are listed below.

I feel like you can do the math here… But if you’ve got say 57 more credits to go, and you want about a 3.7725 from here on out (that was for a 3.4)

Edit: Disregard that, I was reading it as you have 63 credits right now. I don’t know how many credits those classes are, but I’m sure you can do the algebra and figure out what GPA you’ll need to get from now on to get what you want.

Assuming all of your previous classes were 3 credit hours each and your Spring 2010 classes are 3 credit hours each, if you made straight A’s next semester you would end up with a 3.3 GPA.

I use this webpage for all of my GPA calculating. It’s very accurate and simple to use.

http://www.public.iastate.edu/~registrar/gpa-calc/gpaCalculator.html

The Principles of Bio, Organismal Bio, and Evolution and Diversity are all 4 credit hours…sorry. Everything else is 3 credits. And I have 47 credits right now, after Spring it will be 63.

With all A’s and one B (I am guessing Stats) it will be a 3.25, if I get all A’s it will be a 3.29.

But, how horrible it the 3.06 and could I get into grad school with that?

Bumping this

you can definitely still get into Grad school - it’s not like law school where they just look at gpa and lsat, they care about your clinical experience and research. Work in a psych lab or hospital, get some experience. Do well on the GRE, and raise your grades…looks like the only class you did poorly in was Bio and that’s not really important for your field, plus it was freshmen year. Maybe take some summer classes (electives) to boost the gpa a little…3.0-3.2 isn’t horrible but grad schools are selective.

don’t forget admissions is more wholistic than just test scores. also

maybe you need to talk to a psychologist yourself? therapy could make you a lot less stressed…plus it could even give you a new perspective or outlook on the career you want.

Thanks for your input Alix. And I have seen a counselor since I first got to school (had hadthe ED for 4 years then, but parents werent supportive at all of me getting help), September 15th, 2008. Seen a nutritionist since October 1st, 2008. Psychiatrist since November 25th, 2008. And work with the infirmary on occassion for weigh ins, labs, electrolytes, EKG, etc.

So, I have an inside look into therapy and just about everything else ;)
