Maybe put some CSU’s on the list?

agree- to look at cal state’s and some rolling admissions

Again, this kid’s GPA + ACT is enough to GUARANTEE admission into the UC system – see: http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/freshman/california-residents/admissions-index/

She does NOT need a safety if she is willing to attend any of the UC campuses – she has that safety already.

If she wants to add a CSU or a rolling admissions school to the mix, that’s fine – but she does not need a safety college – her grades plus test scores have given her a guaranteed spot.

I really wish CC’er would just check UC eligibility standards – no need to throw the parent into an unnecessary panic just because the daughter didn’t get into her ED school. If she prefers a private school, then it makes sense to target some more match or safety level schools – but if she is happy to attend a UC, she will have a spot. Since she is undecided about major, it really doesn’t matter which UC she ends up at - she will have plenty of opportunities to explore at any of the campuses.

calmom,

thanks!

The UC guarantee typically routes students to Merced or Riverside.

^^

Exactly. And if this high test score student wants to go elsewhere, then the list needs to expand. If she’s fine with M or R, then super.

Oh GAG! The Nevada univ system is the worst in the nation. Do not go to any of those schools.

@ChaseBank You say, “any majors”…what does that mean? Is your D undecided? If so, is she more of a science student or a humanities student?

Is she more likely going to seek a STEM type career? health profession/therapist career? Teaching? Business? Law? What?

You might try the University of Denver. The private school.

We add following colleges;
Oxy,
Grinnell,
Case western,
Colgate.

Maybe only Oxy and CWR are matches. Colgate and Grinnell, still reaches. What about schools like Lewis & Clark and Puget Sound if you want her to stay on the West coast? East coast schools similar to Scripps would be Smith, Connecticut College, Mount Holyoke. Hard to say since we don’t have much info about your D. Is she URM/first generation college? It is concerning that she didn’t get into Scripps ED1; that should be fairly easy for someone with a 35 ACT from a CA boarding school. I’m going to hazard a guess that the OP is not giving a very big piece of information like maybe that the D is a Chinese national?

She has applied to Riverside. Presumably because she is willing to attend.

Yes, we are Chinese, my D was born in USA 1998, she is younger than same class girls, she was not comfortable
with roommate, it really affect her study, until senior she has her own room the her GPA get up, but…

Her 3.4 GPA with 35 ACT would get her a full ride to Louisiana Tech.

Among the UCs, Merced and Riverside are the most likely.

Have you visited Case? Some complain that the weather is gray and ugly.

What about schools like Santa Clara or LMU …

What do you think her career goal will be? Is she a science person or a humanities person?

We add Brandeis, Smith, Colby to the list.

ok…I guess @chasebank isn’t going to answer a couple of basic questions…

:-/

Yes, I want to answer all question, so what is your question?

The UC’s only promise a spot “if space is available.” Most cases, they’ll be offered Riverside or Merced but to count on that in today’s climate is a mistake in my book.

It’s too late to add CSU’s at this point. You can check CSU mentor to see if any are still accepting applications (and sometimes they do) but for the most part, the deadline was in November.

As to the “gag me” response to U of Nevada, we know several high performing kids there who are thriving and recent graduates who are doing very well in graduate school. Sorry, but that is a very immature and short-sighted response.

We didn’t visit Case, my D does’n care weather, anyway she will back CA after college.
She want some little ranked colleges.
She is a science girl, her may like Bio.

My D’s school require all students select at least one safey school, so she select UC R, but she does’t
like it.
