Low GPA, ding ding ding :( I hope that's just a doorbell

2.6 from Tufts
dual major in poli sci/psych
Hispanic

created an alternate transcript by taking Econ 1 and 2 this summer and have 4.0 in that from hofstra.

GMAT 750, 98%(Q49,87% V44,97%)

graduated in 2006 and worked for 2 years at a security consulting firm doing biz dev and financial analysis.

then was at credit suisse for one year as a private equity analyst in their PE fund of funds group.

was laid off during financial crisis, but my old company hired me back and after a few months, promoted me. I'm now Assistant VP for Biz Dev.

Soo, as of Fall 2011, I will have had 5 years of real work experience. 4 with the same company with one year in the middle at CS.

no sense in talking about essays or recs, since you guys can't actually read them, so for now, I'd say all else being equal. Suffice to say, I am an excellent writer, with a clear thesis for my whole application and am very close with my recommendation writers, so I can guide them specifically to be in line with my application (one from CS and one from current security company)

I've also checked out this site with some "low gpa but went to wharton" stories:
MBA360.. formerly Journey to my MBA: Low GPA stories

any tips on best schools you think I can get into would be appreciated.

I am looking at pretty much every school in the top 15, as my situation is a bit unique and you never know when they are looking for something specific.

What do you want to do after you finish B-School? honestly, you could be just as hurt by your senior position as your GPA. I’ve talked to a lot of MBA admissions folks over the years and they really want a coherent reason for getting an MBA (e.g. career field switch, promotion, etc.). You sound like you’ve made some good career progress, so I would focus on your story and what you plan/want to do afterwards…

A low GPA isn’t going to kill you if you have a good story, good career path so far and a good plan for why you need the MBA…if you give us some idea of what you want to do, we could probably make better recommendations

GPA won’t matter given your GMAT and also being hispanic.

In the long term, I am interested in working for a large company, like a honeywell or a GE, in their corporate strategy/M&A (diff companies might call this dept diff things). I would like to be finding new technology start-ups and new small companies or even just engineers who have developed amazing new technology and inventions particularly in the Security and Public Safety Technology fields.

I want to be able to throw the resources of a large firm behind these “little guys” and help bring their amazing innovations to market. Getting their ideas out there in the market is more important to me than whether they develop into their own company, or their technology gets enveloped into the product line of the larger firm.

I could also see how, after developing some expertise in this area, that this would be valuable to VC firms in this sector.

In the short term, in order to accomplish this, I think the best thing for me to do would be some type of tech strategy consulting. I know diff consulting firms have different areas of expertise, so any info on firms that would help me accomplish my long term career goals would also be helpful.
