low gpa high sat vs high sat low gpa?

My question is really simple and it involves two cases.

Case 1: Student has 4.05 weighted GPA with 1950 SAT
Case 2: Student has 3.96 weighted GPA and a 2200 SAT

Who would colleges prefer to admit assuming everything is else the same(EC's, Essays, Etc.).

I’d assume the second one, mainly because the difference in GPA is a lot lower than the difference in SAT between the two

I also think the second, since the first one seems sketchy. the college would wonder if there is grade inflation since the student is “smart” and wonder why they scored low if they have good grades.

For all practical purposes, those grade-point averages are the same, but the SAT scores are not.

^I would say the GPA scores are the same only if they came from the same school since those are weighted scores and the calculations can very between high schools.

Yes, I was making that assumption. If they’re from different schools, the grade-point averages are really not comparable at all.

It also depends on the college. Each college develops its own weighting algorithm based on what they feel makes the most successful student.

OP, which one are you???

I think weighted GPA scores describe more about student capabilities in school and it will take longer time to build up while a student can practice more with training center help to increase SAT scores in a shorter time.

The GPAs are closer to each other than the SAT scores are. Maybe 4.0/2100 vs a 3.7/2300 would be a more apt comparison.

However, from what I’ve heard, GPA (and class rank) matter more than SAT; there are test optional schools, but no GPA optional schools.
