low gpa?

3.3 UW/3.37
around 15-17% of my class
690 CR 660 M 670 WR
31 ACT (will retake both the SAT& ACT)

I've been on the varsity tennis team for 4 years, but don't have any other signifigant EC's, which I know will hurt me. But I'm a National Hispanic Scholar or something like that (based on PSAT scores), would this help?? I know I won't get any money from Tulane, but could I get in? Won't be asking for financial aid.

Please and thanks!!

Hi sproosepti - You certainly have a good shot. On the plus side, your SAT and ACT are dead center for Tulane. Your CR is even above the average, so you are in good shape there. Four years of varsity tennis is very good. And absolutely being Hispanic and a NHS helps. On the minus side is your somewhat low GPA and, I am guessing based on the fact that your weighted GPA isn’t much different than your UW, you didn’t take a lot of AP’s. If I am wrong on that please let us know.

So IMO (which of course is all anyone on here can offer) you will get accepted. There is a long shot of a little money, like $7,500 a year merit scholarship, but you are probably right on that point. Tulane is need blind, so wouldn’t matter if you were asking for FA or not.

I recommend you apply by early October EA. If you are absolutely sure Tulane is your first choice and don’t mind giving up the ability to apply EA or ED elsewhere, apply SCEA. Neither one obligates you to attend Tulane if accepted, and either one will probably get you an answer within a few weeks, but certainly by Dec 15. SCEA especially tells Tulane you like them best, which is a boost in your chances.

woops – my weighted GPA is actually 3.7

Will definitely being applying SCEA then…

OK, that is much better then. I really like your chances. Good luck!
