Low Quantitative GRE

Am trying to get into master’s grad program and recently took the GRE and scored fairly low on the quantitative section with a 149 and a 155 in verbal. Should I proceed to apply or retake it? I have LOR from a former professor and former on-campus employer and have done undergrad research for that professor plus an internship.

What field of study?

I’d add on to what boneh3ad asked by also asking which institution you’d be applying to, as well as what your undergrad GPA was. If it’s in the Top 50 and your GRE scores and/or your GPA are below the institution’s average, I’d consider retaking the GRE.

A 149 puts you in the 35th percentile. I’d retake it regardless of the field of study, but retaking it will be a necessity in any quantitative field - obviously math, physics, engineering, economics, or chemistry, but even psychology, political science, or sociology as well.

The quant GRE score can be improved by study especially if you have been away from math for a while.

So I’ve retaken the exam and improved my score. I’ve a 153 in quantitative now and a 155 in verbal. How will this affect my chances of getting into an engineering program? I plan on applying to New Mexico public universities.
