Got my daughter’s scores today and she did not do well - 50th percentile. I assume she’s out of the running for Millbrook, Berkshire, Peddie, Blair, and St. Marks. Does anyone get in anywhere with scores this low? Very disappointing.
Not necessarily. Depends on the overall packsge, including ECs, grades, and teacher recommendations. (They want to know she can handle the work and contribute to the school Community).
Are you FP? Did you consider any all girls schools? They tend to be more forgiving.
An impact athlete might have a chance. I think that even full pay applicants would have a difficult time getting admitted to competitive schools with an SSAT score of 50.
Does she have any other standardized test scores which may indicate that these scores are an anomaly ?
Of course, it depends upon the pool of this year’s applicants to a particular school. If all else is strong in her application, she may get waitlisted. If seeking significant financial aid, I think that the odds of admission are quite low.
@Summer1974: According to another thread, your daughter is applying for the 10th grade. If willing to repeat 9th grade, then you can get her SSAT rescored as an applicant for grade 9 which should raise her score.
But you need to contact each school and the testing service ASAP.
Really about the rescore? I was unaware of that. The importance of the SSATs for some of the more competitive schools is the extent to which they are prognostic for college testing in 11th grade. Some schools protect their college stats by early exclusion. But there are also many schools that are less competitive and less caught up in that game.
I believe that the fee for getting a rescore is $50.
@Summer1974 : Have you considered Culver Academies in Indiana ? Wealthy school, generous financial aid & a gorgeous lakeside campus.
Not necessarily. DS was accepted to Berkshire and though his scores were a bit higher overall (not a ton, and his V and R were MUCH higher than Q), the AO told us that kids are accepted with scores all over the place, from much lower to extremely high. DS did not apply to any of the other schools on your list but Millbrook was recommended for him — just didn’t apply for various reasons. Good luck to your daughter!
It may help to contact the schools & discuss the situation.
@CTMom21: If I may ask, is this true for applicants seeking substantial financial aid ?
@Publisher, I really couldn’t say, but we got the idea at Berkshire in particular (as well as AOF) that SSAT scores were just not very important as compared to other factors, and I would think that would apply across the board.
