Low summer enrollment-what happens?

I notice some excellent enrollment at USC summer classes. However, the classes of interest have very low enrollment. Do students sign up at the last minute? How many students need to be in the class to keep the class going? USC catalogue does not specify a number to cancel a class. Any experience with this? Anyone know why S. California CC have not yet posted its classes? Budget cuts?

Most California Community Colleges haven’t posted their summer schedule of classes yet because that is the schedule they work on - not because of budget cuts. The ones I am familiar with don’t register the kids for Summer classes until May, and they publish the schedule in late April. Fall registration also follows a different schedule than USC - which makes sense because the mission of California Community Colleges is very different than the mission of a major private research institution. For Fall the schedule is published in mid summer and they register in late summer, while at USC returning students will be registered for Fall before the Spring semester ends.
