I plan on taking both Biology and Chemistry subject tests in January, but before I sent them, I was wondering what would be a good score to send?

I took a practice test of both today and scored 700 on chem and 650 on Bio (yikes), but this was without any review and just a baseline to see where I should focus my studying. Do you think 750 (chem) and 700+ (bio) are possible? What's the minimum that you would send?

What was your ACT (if you don’t mind me asking)? I was hoping these SAT IIs would offset my SAT I somewhat… 1290/1940 and so if I got 750s or so do you think that would help? I do have a 3.96 (4.63 W) for GPA; chances?

The rule of thumb that I heard from ND and Vandy adcoms is that a score in the 700’s will help an applicant. I tried to push both to be more specific, but they wouldn’t bite. I would guess that I would send mid 700’s (740 and up) but not anything lower. I would not send any scores unless I sent at least two. I think only sending one score would raise more questions than it answered.

DS had a 34 ACT and was accepted EA for the Class of 2017. He did not send his SAT II scores of 720 (Math II), 680 (Biology M) and 660 (USH) since we thought these would detract from his ACT score. Of course, the official line is that the scores will only be considered if they help an applicant, but I remain skeptical.

@rmldad- Congrats on your son. Personally, I believe the line about SAT II not hurting an applicant, or the scores only being considered if it helps, is true. I was also accepted EA, and sent Math 2 (720), Lit (670) and both Chem and USH (600). Not stellar, but I think my other stats made up for it. Admissions decisions are very holistic nowadays.
