LSAT Prep

I'm just looking for general advice on LSAT prep from people who have already taken the test. Which books are good? Do you think taking a course is worthwhile? How much time did you put into studying? How early did you start? Etc.

First step is a diagnostic to tell you approximately where you are. Might not need a course at all.

My parents gave me money for one so I signed up..but it doesn't start until late February. Is there a particular website on which to take the diagnostic test?

LSAC.org should have one floating around somewhere.

Don't trust an online diagnostic. The only diagnostics that matter are full-length, real LSATs that you take in one timed sitting (preferably in the morning, preferably paper-and-pencil). You have to replicate test conditions, because some people will find some aspect of the testing situation unusually stressful. Any book that has REAL LSATs from the past will do.

Oh, goodness. Don't do it online. It's a .pdf file. Print it out. Do it on pencil and paper.

Wow, I started studying a couple weeks ago and according to my first practice test my score actually dropped. This is normal right?

Yes. Both an actual drop and a drop due to usual variation are normal.
