Hello! I was recently accpeted into Lyman Briggs at MSU for Fall of 2016 and I had a couple questions. First I know I want to go to football games so is it easy to get there? I know Holmes is not super close to the stadium. Also are there all types of people that are in Lyman Briggs? I’m not too much of a partier but I would like to go to some and have a fun college experience. Then lastly are the courses harder at Lyman Briggs compared to the residential college? Thanks!
Hi, I was also just admitted to LB for next year! Ive been to campus a few times, and from my experience holmes is about a 15-20 minute walk MAX from the stadium.
As for people, you’ll meet students who never go to partys, students who party every weekend, and lots of people in between, so you’ll definitely get the college experience you want, even in briggs. Plus, you’ll meet non briggs students in some of your classes outside of holmes anyway.
As for the courses, some are harder than courses outside of briggs, but some aren’t. It really just depends on the class.
(I have a few friends in briggs and they’ve debriefed me on most of the important things to know).
Thank you!
Hi, I am a current Freshmen in Lyman Briggs
I went to two football games this year, and yes, Holmes is a little far from the stadium, but it’s not unmanageable. Walking from Holmes to the stadium, there were lots of groups of people walking to the game, and lots of people tailgating. After the game, there are LOTS of people leaving and generally there’s just a big blob of people that you end up walking with all the way back to East Neighborhood.
And yes, there really are all different types of people in Briggs. My roommate and I don’t party, but we know lots of people in Briggs who do go to parties.
As for Briggs courses, I don’t know if it’s right to say Briggs courses/University courses are harder than the other, it just depends on the student. Most students in Briggs are really interested in the science class and appreciate the Briggs classes. For example, Briggs chemistry does an large section on organic chemistry that really helps to prepare students for organic chemistry. The class is difficult, but when you are done with the class, you really know your chemistry and are well prepared for organic chemistry. However, there was someone in my chem class, and she didn’t really like any of the Briggs classes, she didn’t know why she was even in Briggs, and ended up dropping Briggs after the first semester, she probably would have preferred a university course over Briggs. It also depends on the professor.
