MA to FL tips

Hey I currently go to a CC here in Mass and I have all my engineering prereqs done (calc, phys, chem, etc). I’m applying to schools now and I wanted to get some advice from someone who’s moved from MA to FL for school. How was the transition? Are the students friendlier down south (they’re real snobby up here)? What are the chances of me getting in? GPA 3.3. Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

Well turn in your wools for some light cottons!

Way friendlier down here for sure. i moved down from CT to FL. I am a parent not your age so it is a bit different but you wont regret the move. much nicer in FL in too many ways to even list. Ok lemme give it a shot:

  1. no snow to shovel, no frozen cheekbones, no slipping on black ice, no everything related to that
  2. Less pretentious unless you are in miami beach south of 5th
  3. no snow to shovel...
  4. good weather except for some months of the summer when u will be home up north anyways
  5. no snow to...
  6. much nicer and chatty folks here (and i like that)
  7. no snow...
  8. transition? what transition? half the folks down here were from up north sometime before our brains started working - adjusting was easy peasy.
  9. no snow...

What’s your plan engineering major? At UF, it’s easier to transfer into some majors (like Civil) but much, much harder in others (like Mechanical).

I moved from up north to Florida in high school and I think it will be very likely that you will enjoy the people here much friendlier! Weather will likely be the element with the most disparity, and it’s going to be a way easier one than if you were transferring the other way around (which I also did, being originally from Florida). Other than updating your wardrobe, I don’t think you will find much difficulty in adjusting!
