Mac Applications

I just ordered my macbook and was wondering if I should have bought it with iWork or any of those applications.
My friend told me I should just torrent them online since apple overprices anyway. What are your thoughts/any tips?

Personally, I like MS Office '08 for the mac over the iWork Suite. If you are looking at either, get them from a school store if you can or at least try for a student discount from Apple if you are going to buy. Pirating them is easy enough if you now where to look.

I would just torrent MS Office 08. Im typing on my new MacBook Pro right now, I love it.

I wouldn't pay for Office. I use iWork just for Keynote. It's just classy.

I hate iWork. Pages is harder to work with than MS Office or Word. ANy suggestions on how I can get MS Office for a cheap price or free?

depends on your needs really
iwork can handle most anything you throw at it
does presentations, papers, and basic graphs, and its fully compatible with ms office
however, if your going to be needing more intensive stuff, like big excel charts and the like, youll prolly want to go with ms office
as far as price goes iwork is only like 80 bucks, which is half what you would be paying for ms office
hope this helps

use this program called NeoOffice. its like OpenOffice for windows. its completely free, and open source like firefox. it has all the apps, Word, Spreadsheets, Presentations. its compatible with all the file formats. i have been using it since i got my mac a year ago, and have never needed anything else.
