Im looking for the best kind of laptop to use at Cornell and money is not really an issue. Any recommendations?

Dell
.........

I think you'll find a PC more compatible. But I may be biased :P

If money is not an issue get either a Mac or a Lenovo Thinkpad (if you decide on a PC).

i use a mac and it's been flawless on campus for 2 years now

The Intel Macs can run Windows as well as Mac OSX without problems. There's no longer a disadvantage to having a Mac.

Not a Dell.

Why would you even consider Dell if money is not an issue?

I prefer Macs, but it's simply a matter of preference. If you buy from Dell at the right time, you can get more for your money, but Apple creates superior products in terms of aesthetics and usability.

My opinion: if you want portability, get a decked out macbook. If you want a bigger screen, deck out a macbook pro with 3gb ram and a 2.33gh core 2 duo. You can't go wrong with either of those.

macs are very stable machines but they lack in variability. Most people who buy a mac buy it because they want a computer to work. Nothing else really. Any windows machine lets you have a lot of variability and plus the world is windows based, not OSX based.

Just spend the extra 500 and get a mac (it can run win, linux, and OSX).

definitely not those new macbooks
there are so many problems with those its not even funny

i got my macbook for free at my school..their doesnt seem to be any problems with it. although, i do like PCs more..im using a Dell xps now (but that may be due to adjustment issues with macs)

DELL ALL THE WAY! don't even get near an apple.

High quality stuff
Easy to manipulate Tech Support
Price protection

can't get better than that. i don't even know if other companies provide price protection

what that is that if there is a difference in the hardware prices between the time you bought it and the day you requested it, you can get a partial refund.

for example if a mobo costs $150 when u bought it 2 weeks ago but now it costs $25 you get $125 back

you must do it within 21 days of order date by phone :P (promotions don't count)

If you want a great computer that looks great, get a Macbook Pro. I have never heard of anyone that I know having a problem. You can run windows if you desire, but OSX is more stable and just plain awesome.

Apple support is so much better than any other company too.

I just recently purchased a MacBook Pro--my first Mac--and it is the most functional computer I've ever used. Quick boot times, drag and drop, easy install/uninstall...it's almost impossible to get this thing cluttered and running slow.

Not to mention it can run Microsoft Office and now, Windows.

aren't apples more likely to be stolen?

same with money on the ground.

If a laptop is left alone, it will be picked up by someone regardless of the brand.

Dells are AWFUL. My last 3 or 4 computers have been Dells and I am FINALLY getting a different one next year. If money is not an issue, get the Sony Vaio either TX Series (11 inch screen) or the SZ Series (13 inch screen). I can't decide which one of these to get but I'm leaning more toward the smaller one and then getting a combo TV/Monitor so that I don't go blind while working in my room on an 11-inch screen. But either one of them is sooo portable and very cool looking. And I've heard reliable too. Dells ALWAYS BREAK and you will lose all of your information...it's something about their hard drives but seriously EVERY ONE of my Dells (all of which I bought brand new) has broken down and lost all of my information. And I ALWAYS take such good care of the computer with regard to viruses, spam, spyware et cetera. They're awful.

With regard to Macs, it's just a personal preference I guess. You either love Macs or hate them, but they are pretty reliable I think. Personally, I get angry when I use someone else's Macintosh. I would go crazy if I owned one.

Sametwochords, don't get a TX as your primary computer. Even with the bigger screen, it will drive you absolutely nuts. It's a great machine for traveling, but the keyboard is so cramped that you won't be able to type for extended periods of time.

I think that for a primary PC, a screen of at least 12" and a full-size keyboard are a must.

The SZ, on the other hand, is a wonderful machine. They can be configured to be extremely powerful in a tiny little package. The F-series (15-in) and C-series (13.3in) would also make nice primary computers.

sony ... watch it blow up lol

everyone has different stories about dell. i personally went through about 20 dells in my life and surprisingly, only the one I bought new is giving me problems. used ones I buy off ebay NEVER gave me any problems

i have 5 in my house right now, all running reliably. no problems so far.
