What's the preferred computer for the LSA students?

Whatever you’re comfortable with in terms of budget, tech support, and personal preference. That said, the labs at most of the dorms etc. seem to favor mac/are well-equipped with macs. Since our family favors mac, that’s the way we went.

Labs/Libraries favor PC, not macs

when i visited, the fish bowl was full of macs… is it different in the libraries?

Unless things have changed in the last 2 years, the fishbowl is half PC half Mac. That’s what they tell prospective students on admissions tours too.

Duderstadt is all PC.
Pierpont is mostly PC.
I would say UGLI split, but favors PC (especially if you take into account the CAEN Lab)
Bursley is mostly PC in both lab and CLC (unless there are changes since my freshman year)

I would go with a PC. You’ll get more power at a lower cost. Macs are over-hyped to be honest.

^ding ding ding

Most of the mighty mouse scrolls of the Macs on campus doesn’t work.

I’d go with a PC laptop. Why? 2011 MBPs have severe overheating issues.

My personal observation is that most students have macs. I have a PC and I really don’t think it matters, just get what you want. You’ll be able to find both macs and PCs on campus.
