Mac or PC?

Who said i was talking about Windows? Any system with a type of unix is good for me.

Maybe it's the fact that I've only had a Mac for three days now, but many of a Mac's subtleties are terribly inconvenient for a person who's had a PC all their life. Right-clicking, copy+pasting, etc etc: it's all so much easier on a PC. But if you don't mind the transition period, I guess it's ok.

I bought my macbook a few weeks ago - I hadn't worked regularly on a mac before that, always on PCs.

I LOVE IT.

You can still right click with the trackpad so easily - just rest two fingertips on the trackpad and click the button as normal...it becomes just as second nature as right-clicking within a week or so. Also, there is a spellchecker in every textbox that you type in...which is convenient when emailing or using forums. You can also use two fingers to scroll...which I like so much better than the scroll bar on the side of the trackpad on some pcs. Now when I use pc laptops I keep trying to scroll or right click using my mac methods...haha, so sad.

But what it really comes down to is which operating system you like better. I love OSX, and really have a lot of problems with Vista. (Bleh.) If you get a mac though, if you can wait until October, I would - Leopard is coming out!! The finder will be set up like iTunes, which is just fab.

Anyway, I can answer any questions you have about macbooks...yep.

If you're artistic go for the Mac.
If you're not, go for the PC.
It's that simple.

No, it's not.

PC is generally easier to use, since most people have used it more often, and is considered pretty user-friendly.
Macs are rarer and that is why some people say it takes time to get used to.

I personally will try and buy a MacBook (iSight, iTunes, iMovie, Garageband, Safari, pretty much everything) and bring over my Windows desktop (games, back-up files, hard drive space).

not to mention macs a lot slower compared to PCs!

Ignorance is bliss, eh Bob?

^It's true, though... I have read about them and done some tests myself

"not to mention macs a lot slower compared to PCs!"

Which mac compared to which pc? Of course a top of the line Dell is going to beat out the Macbook in speed, but if you put two similarly equipped laptops, one with OSX and one with Vista, it will have little difference on the speed of the computer - that depends on the hardware...and after Macs changed over to Intel processors, the innards of PCs and Macs are very similar.

This will just turn into a Mac vs PC fanboi brawl.
Let people think what they want.

wowowowowo u said vista. nobody said anything about vista.

same hardware powering xp is faster than osx. im pretty sure thats right.

now, leopard vs vista would be more fair.

it might as well be Unix refers to the architecture of the OS

using the Terminal = using bash, which is the basic unix shell

im using my mac right now, boot time on it was 21 seconds from pressing the power button to staring at my desktop.

i love it

I doubt that it'd be "fair" seeing as how OS X increments actually increase the responsiveness of the system unlike Windows which simply because bloated and slow.

Windows which simply because bloated and slow.

And what's that supposed to mean?

viscious: Between being almost indecipherable, and also factually incorrect, that post is quite the achievement.

i'm just trying to figure out how to improve it.... (read: make it less comprehensible)

if your IQ is 80 or below or you are 65 years old or older a MAC might be for you. Otherwise, stick with a PC

I have a random question...what are the chances of getting your laptop stolen in college? Do you have to carry it everywhere or lock it up?

I have worked on both PC and Mac for most of my adult life....My IQ is definately above 80 and I am 53 years young. I HATE the extra time it takes my PC to boot up and all the windows "like" MAC. MAC is the original window. October cannot come too soon for me when Leopard OS comes out for MAC. This PC and the PC notebook I also have is being donated to someone who has lots of time to wait and debug. Apples DO NOT CRASH.

So sorry that a slip of one word (because -> becomes) makes it impossible for your mind to comprehend what I was trying to get across.

What I was saying is that, for example, after upgrading from OS X 10.3 -> 10.4 a computer will generally be snappier. That can't be said about the upgrade from XP -> Vista, in my experience Vista is actually more sluggish. I run both Windows and OS X, windows on a Thinkpad T60 and OS X on a G5 iMac.

@ketty, you probably don't need to lock it in your room unless you leave your door open a lot.

other than that, just don't leave it lying around.
