Can any current students or informed incoming freshmen attest to the pros and cons of going to Middlebury with a Mac versus a PC (or vice-versa)?

thanks!

Middlebury Bookstore is an authorized apple dealer. (<a href=“Middlebury College store - Middlebury College store”>Middlebury College store - Middlebury College store)

They also have the microsoft suite of word, etc for free download from Library.

Thanks! I did find this while searching through “Purchase a Computer Through Middlebury College.”

“However, if something breaks in a Mac computer, they often need to be shipped away to Apple, whereas Dell PCs under warranty can often be repaired on-site.”

The website also states that Dells are provided through the college. I would think, with this information, that a Dell would be more efficient in this situation. Any thoughts?

The biggest advantage to having a mac at midd is, well, that it’s a mac. The mac may be more difficult to repair, but it’s also a lot less likely to require repair.

touch

I would say that most students have Apple computers rather than PCs, which makes me and my Dell feel pretty special. Most computers in the main library seem to be PCs, though (there are certainly Apples in the building–for example, in a room dedicated to media production).
You won’t encounter hardship with either.

i got the dell the college offered and it failed me 3 times - yes, there’s on site repair, but 1) the helpdesk isn’t the most helpful, and 2)often times they wait for the parts so it takes some time. in the end of my freshman year i got a mac and never needed any repair for it ever since (it’s been almost 2 years)
