Macalester vs Lafayette (math)

Hi everyone,

I'm going to major in math and hesitating between Mac and Lafa. I'm interested in working in actuarial industries after graduation because my dream is to facilitate our lives by math. I also expect to continue participating in modeling competitions in college. I highly appreciate the intellectual environment and academic excellence in Mac. However, I do not have any reasons to opt out Lafa. FA and weather are not taken into consideration.
Thank you for your advice.

notmuch- I’m originally from the Lehigh Valley and my great grandfather graduated from Lafayette. It is a very good school as is Mac. As to the math angle, I think either would suit your purpose. As to the modeling aspect Lafayette is @ 90 minute drive to NYC so that may be important, but Mac is actually in St.Paul with Minneapolis just across the river so that might be a wash, I don’t really know. If you haven’t visited each campus you definitely should to see where you think you’d fit better. My personal opinion is that if you are really interested in a more urban environment I’d go with Mac if you like the greek aspect of college then Lafayette would be a better choice. Good luck!
