Macaulay Baruch vs. University of Michigan (Tuition Covered 3.3k in External Costs) LSA

If I read OP’s comments correctly, these are not direct costs: Op indicated they want a single room, which costs more, and the above costs are estimated travel costs as well as personal expenses.

@momprof9904 I want to clarify the following:

If I were to take out loans the cost for 1 year at U-Mich will be 6.6k. This estimate includes room board, travel, external cost, and personal expenses.

If I did not take out loans the cost for 1 year at U-Mich will be 10k. This estimate includes room, board, travel, external cost, and personal expenses.

The title of the post “3.3k” is the rough estimate per semester if I were to take out loans.

I’ve planned a visit for the upcoming spring break. Definitely will have to do some convincing. But for me right now it’s still 50:50. I want to go to grad school right out of undergrad. I know Macaulay provides 1 on 1 advisors for grad schools and have a history of students who’ve went on to go to ivies T20’s. Don’t know if U-Mich does that as well (clarify if any of you know). I’ve talked to U-Mich over the phone and have applied to a scholarship they’ve offered me for the 4 years. The scholarship will cover all the remaining expenses and travel! If I get the scholarship I will definitely consider going to U-mich. At the end of the day I’m thankful for both of these great options and I’m also thankful for everyone’s insight on this post! Will update once I’ve made my final decision!

Regarding the numbers:
Please post the total cost to you for each college and how you will pay that cost. A loan is a method of paying that cost. It still costs you that amount. So for example:
UMich $10k per year total cost. Will pay first year with $5.5k loan, $Xk from savings, $Xk from parents, etc.
Macauley/Baruch: $Xk total cost. Will pay with XXXXX

Also:

Didn’t you already get a full-tuition scholarship? IS this a DIFFERENT scholarship from the one you already got?

One more question: The full-tuition scholarship at U-M … is it need-based or merit?

Can you list, for each school:
(tuition, fees, room, board) - (grants, scholarships) =

(No adding extra costs for a single room or what you estimate you’ll need to travel)

Is your loan a 5.5K federal loan? (If so, how do you end up with 6.6K?)

Is UMich covering the full costs of TUITION or the full costs of tuition, fees, room* and board?
(*= double room, standard)

UMich. You seem to like it more and it is a nationally recognized school and to me is worth the extra cost.

Do you really want to live at home for your collegiate experience? That’s an important decision to make right there.
