Hi everyone!
I just got into Macaulay Honors at Baruch and Fordham University at Lincoln Center. However, I don’t know what to pick!
Baruch’s pros:
Free tuition, $7500 for studying abroad, free Mac book Air, free summer classes (limited), priority registration, can save up money for Graduate school, good business school
Cons:
It’s not as diverse as I would like it to be (there are a lot of Asians), I heard many kids go to the vendor carts to eat lunch which isn’t really healthy, and there are some parts of the buildings that are old and not pretty.
Fordham’s pros:
beautiful campus, beautiful building, safe neighborhood, better internship opportunities, small classes, well known school, good places to eat, smart kids
Cons:
not as diverse either (majority is white), I do have to pay some money so won’t have money to study abroad, I heard that the kids there were snobby so…
I love both schools, and I honestly feel very comfortable in both schools. However, I would feel more comfortable in Fordham but Macaulay has so many better benefits.
Can you use actual numbers for Fordham?
1° What’s your parents’ budget?
2° If you calculate (tuition, room, board, fees) - (scholarships, grants), what’s the resulting dollar amount? DO NOT deduct any loan (could be called Stafford, Perkins, Parent Plus…)
Macaulay Honors at Baruch seems to be the winner to me. You will be more than just another student at Baruch, since you will be in the special program. It will not only be great on your resume, but will enhance your entire college experience. Also, you can learn more in a study abroad program than you can in four years of education here – in other words, you learn so many things about societies, people, values, laws and so on just by living in a place, regardless of what classes you take in the other country. If going to Fordham costs more money and gives you less…then clearly the better deal is to pay less and get more at Baruch.
mommyrocks,
That’s what I thought about Baruch College before. It seemed like a no-brainer for me because Macaulay was giving so much more. But then I visited Fordham, and the campus and building itself was so nice. It was much better than Baruch. I also felt a lot more comfortable and happier at Fordham. Therefore, I am conflicted about where to go to.
MYOS1634,
My parents would still have to pay around 25,000
Right now, my parents are asking for more money, but I know they will not give me full tuition.
My mom is willing to pay at least 10,000 for Fordham tuition.
I got a scholarship of 28,700 excluding loans.
Well Fordham is better than Baruch, and certainly it’s a more “comfortable” learning environment. However, it sounds like 25k is above your parents’ budget, am I right?
Macaulay at Baruch is very good. If you can afford Fordham, go to Fordham, but if not, rest assured Baruch + Macaulay are a very good choice.

Yes, Fordham is a well-known school. And yes, it would be too much for my parents to pay 25,000. My mom asked for more money and we are waiting for a response. However, we’re not getting high hopes about getting a lot more money.
And thank you for your advice.
