@CParker Do you work for Macaulay CC?
@learning4eva Congrats! I don’t understand how they admit. My DD had 1480 on her SAT. Yes, her grades dipped a little in junior year, but she’s in a very competitive NYC HS. If she was in a regular HS, she may have had really high GPA. Her senior year grades have been amazing with AP’s, and those are sent in. Her school does not do GPA or rank students at all. She does sports, EC’s in and out of school. Don’t get it.
My son got wait-listed for Maccaulay at CCNY. He actually realized after he picked CCNY as his first choice that he really wanted Hunter and he’s hoping to get into one of the other honors programs at Hunter. I’m just curious though what kind of a chance he has being wait-listed. Does anyone know someone who was wait-listed and then actually got in?
@ny_mom3 I don’t understand either. My son had a 1400 and a 4.0, all honors classes plus IB diploma candidate, good references and I thought a good essay. He got wait-listed for CCNY. Did your DD get wait-listed or rejected?
So, no word from Hunter/Macaulay for my daughter, and no communication regarding what may have happened. We had been told to expect a decision on March 15th.
Is this true for anyone else? Did anyone hear about any issues that may have cropped up yesterday?
Hi I haven’t gotten an email from City College Macaulay yet either. I’ve tried contacting them via email and called them but no reply. I don’t understand what’s going on either.
This message is for everyone who is still seeking answers on Macaulay Honors College decisions. While I can only speak specifically for the City College campus, I can say generally that all eight campuses that are part of the Macaulay Honors College are expected to release their Macaulay acceptance decisions on March 15th (though not a specific time). If you did not receive an acceptance or wait-list e-mail then it is likely that you did not get accepted into Macaulay. Notifications to anyone not accepted to Macaulay are typically handled centrally by the Macaulay Honors College staff.
However, if you have not heard anything then I still strongly recommend that you check with the campuses that you selected for Macaulay consideration. Sometimes not all acceptances are able to go out when they are supposed to, or perhaps they went to an e-mail address that you are not checking. I’ll give you an example for my campus, City College, as I am responsible for these communications. Although I sent all of the e-mails shortly after midnight on March 15th, I still have nine e-mails that have not been viewed, and three e-mails that were bounced back, which I have just resolved now that I have retrieved the server data report. As we usually do, we will also be making calls throughout next week.
Also, please remember that each campus also has a campus based honors program that usually requires a separate notification from Macaulay. While they also typically go out on the 15th, in our case they have been delayed until next week.
If you have applied to Macaulay at City College and have not received any notification, please feel free to e-mail me at cparker@ccny.cuny.edu and I will discuss the matter with you privately.
I never got an email from macaulay at baruch (my first choice) but I got an email from baruch honors program. Does that mean a rejection from macaulay???
@actquen Macaulay acceptances usually say “Macaulay Honors College at…” so it is likely that you got admitted to the campus based honors program. Macaulay applicants are reviewed simultaneously for the Macaulay Honors College and the campus based honors programs. In some cases the campus based honors programs are a better fit than Macaulay Honors College. I recommend that you discuss the campus based program with a Baruch College representative to see if it meets your academic and professional desires and goals. You may be pleasantly surprised at the experience that awaits you.
CParker i’ve emailed you. I hope to hear from you soon.
@CParker, thanks for posting the helpful information. I was wondering, do you have any idea as to the odds of getting in if you’re waitlisted, such as, how many people they put on the waitlist, and if their first choices don’t accept how do they choose who to pick from the waitlist first? They didn’t give any information on that whatsoever in the email.
I got into MHC at Lehman! I heard back at midnight on the 15th.
@Sugarmyst Every year is different, and as you stated, we do have to wait until all of the commitments have been made. Like most other colleges, though we like to have commitments as soon as possible, we do allow until the recognized national commitment deadline of May 1st. There have been some years where we haven’t had to call anyone from the waitlist, and in the years where we have, it has never been more than a handful of students. Only after May 1st will we know for sure whether we will be able to call anyone from the waitlist.
@ny_mom3 I don’t work in the CCNY Honors Center – they advise both Macaulay Honors and City College Honors students – but I am part of the review committee for Macaulay Honors College at City College. These decisions are extremely difficult. There are so many amazing students that apply for our honors programs, and I certainly wish that we could admit them all. Since it is so competitive it often comes down to the minutest differences, which is why it is so difficult. I’ll be honest, I spent many agonizing hours going back and forth between the students that I was reviewing, and I’m only one member of a much larger committee. If you have any specific questions/concerns about our decisions, please feel free to e-mail me (cparker@ccny.cuny.edu) and I will be happy to speak with you in more detail.
@CParker Thank you so much for your honest reply.
Denied from Macaulay Honors at Baruch
SAT: 1430 GPA: 3.5. Very Strong Extras
Not a shocker… Congratulations to everyone who got accepted!
My S was accepted to Macaulay Honors at Hunter. He just received the letter in the mail.
SAT: 1500 GPA 4.0
City College Honors Program decisions have been released. Congratulations to the City College Honors Program Class of 2023!
@CParker If you have not been admitted to Macaulay CC- when can you expect an admissions decision from the college itself? Hunter responded (with an acceptance) quickly and it was the other choice on Macaulay application. Thanks for offering your feedback here.
