*My big question is, does it really make sense to spend lots of money on undergraduate education when a good low cost option is available when one intends to enter professions that are not that highly paid and will still require graduate degrees? *

I don’t think it’s a good idea to spend a lot of money for undergrad to enter professions that don’t pay well and still require grad school.

*Oh, she is an NMF but would have to change her choice of colleges if she didn’t do Macaulay Honors…she said Brandeis was her first choice for that but with the financial aid package Brandeis offered (or didn’t) she won’t be going there…but NMF is pretty limited in where you can use it. She is on the last round of finalists now. *

She can change her first choice. I think right now she should list herself as undecided for “first choice” unless one of her schools absolutely REQUIRES to be named first choice before May 1st (actually, probably the the Friday before…April 29).

I sincerely hope that your daughter will attend the Macaulay accepted students day this coming Thursday. I really think it will go a long way in helping her to reach a decision. It certainly helped me decide to come here. I’d be more than happy to answer any questions, hope to see you there.

I attended Geneseo undergrad and then NYU for grad. It is like night and day the two experiences but I loved both! First, Geneseo is very strong in the sciences, out of any of the undergraduate SUNY physics programs Geneseo graduates the most. Although Geneseo is strong for Education and the Social Sciences, over the years Geneseo has developed a top rate science program. Biology is the #1 major among incoming freshman. I chose Geneseo because of the cost, beautiful campus, academic programs, student profile and dedicated faculty. I was able to afford Geneseo by working summers and at the college during the school year and was an RA, which was a big help. There are ways to afford Geneseo. I felt at home at Geneseo and since this was where I would be for four years of my life that was important. I had no interest in attending college in NYC as an undergrad…too many distractions and lack of a real college campus experience.

It is really a personal choice but both schools are great choices. Congrats!

We went to the reception and she will be done with the school play tonight and we will be in a better position to discuss it tomorrow. My daughter was talking about distractions…but to tell you the truth, that had never been an issue in her life…I should have half of the focus she has.
