Just one year ago, I was just like most of you. I constantly bashed on Apple and thought PC was better than Mac.

Then I bought my first Apple product: an iPod Touch. It was the first time I had crossed that “line” from PC to Mac. At first, I rationalized that it was only an iPod, not a Mac, but then I decided to buy another Apple product: an iPhone.

A few months later, my friend was considering buying a MacBook. I wrote him this long e-mail of why Macs sucked. After I wrote the e-mail, I went on Apple.com and watched a few videos there. The next day, I ordered a MacBook.

I was now “converted” to Apple as some might say. I felt embarrassed that at one point I actually liked WinDOZE and PCs. Since then, I bought the iPhone 3G, MacBook Pro 15" Unibody, and Mac Mini. A lot of you have brought up price. It is true that when buying a Mac, you are paying a premium. One thing is for sure, it is easily worth it.

I know that as you “Mac haters” read this, you will be close-minded. I would have been! But sorry to say: It is the truth.

I’m not close minded. I’ve used Macs before quite frequently. They do the same things as Windows computers, just slightly differently. There are also limits. If you want to play games and stuff you also have to have Windows on there, which pretty much defeats the point. It’s clear though that you are close minded right now, and you were just as much before. That’s you.

Whether the price difference is worth it is debatable. Judging by the number of things you’ve bought, obviously your financial situation makes cost a bit irrelevant. That’s not really true for everyone.

As I showed above, an iMac can cost about 80% more than something with superior specs and is more difficult to customize. You may be willing to pay an extra $600 for OSX, others aren’t.

Why would anyone pay upwards of $500 to $1,000 more for a Mac when they can get a PC that does the exact same thing, sometimes better for less?
I’m a CS and MechEngineering major, the average Mac is not compatible with the software I need.

And please explain how having a preference is being close-minded?

I wouldn’t say that I am close-minded. I still own and use a PC every day. They get the job done. Some random thought: It’s kind of like a Powerpoint compared to a Keynote.

As for my financial situation, I may not be poor, but I am certainly not rich. I simply took advantage of the high resale value of Apple products. For example, when I upgraded from the MacBook to the MacBook Pro, I sold the MacBook for $1500 and bought the MacBook Pro for $1700.

I use a PC, but I certainly have no hatred toward Macs. It’s just the principle of things, why would I pay more for a Mac that has the same specs than a lower priced PC?

There’s no doubt about it that Macs do have a very high resale value. But, I’d rather buy a cheaper PC, use it for a few years while saving money up for a new one, get rid of it, and buy another.

It is just a matter of preference though. I just hate Mac fanboys who tout “Macs are cooler and can’t get viruses”. Macs can get viruses, no OS is completely immune from a virus.

Macs are the root of all EVIL!!!
I use them everyday for 9 months a year so i have experience. the best is a PC like the inspiron. very fast, good capacity, and can USE most programs and games, unlike the mac which a lot of games cannot be used on. GET A PC !!!
Macs are over-priced. you could get a better quality and better looking PC for the same price. Go with the PC.

Get the 13" MBP. It’s features are way better than any other laptop on the market right now, fast, secure, good looking, and has awesome battery life. Don’t be misled by people trying to tell you that you can get a Dell or HP for a cheaper price and higher specs because Windows machines need the extra memory and RAM to compete with the Pro in performance lol. You’ll be more satisfied with the Pro and you can install Windows on it if you want. Go for the Pro. :)
