Just a quick question here after talking to one of my Dad's friend; is it better to do a major in mechanical when an undergrad and do a masters in aerospace or is it better just to do a straight aerospace for undergrad and masters?

Aerospace is often considered a sub category of mechanical. As the broader based discipline, mechanical engineers find jobs in many areas including aerospace and thus can more easily move from one industry to another; that can be helpful when the airline/aeronautics businesses go into a funk and lay-off a lot of engineers, which happens now and then.

I would highly recommend mechanical engineering as your first degree, then go more specialized with your advanced degree. You will have more job opportunities because your degree will be more broad.
