magnet high schools

Do colleges/universities care what high school a student went to? Lets say a student applies to in-state colleges that knows the magnet high school well. The students grades are a bit lower than that of the peers in the applicant pool. Do the colleges take their high school into consider.

Yes, I think Universities take all these factors into consideration.

Hmmm...I'm wondering the same thing. I go to a School of Choice and our classes are substantially harder than other high schools.

Yes, definitely.

yes bball, they do, and it could help u over say a valedictorian at an uncompetitive school and could possibly even have a lower GPA

I go a IB World School that has ranked as high as number 3 in the nation, but my GPA is not as high as a student from an average HS, do i look better to colleges?

So im a freshman in IB at this highly ranked magnet school with a 3.5 UW GPA and a 4.0 W GPA and im taking an AP . How do i look?

^Do you go to Stanton College Prep (I think that's what it's called)?

I really hope they do look at which school you go to. I've only made a few B's, but if I went to any other school around me, I would have made straight A's.

No, but i live in the same county as SCP. I go to Stanton's arch rival and competitor Paxon School for Advanced Studies. They have a higher ranked AP and Honors program than us, but our IB is ranked higher

wat if u go to a magnet high school and apply out of state colleges? How would they know of the high school u went to?

magnet schools usually send an explanation of their course rigor and gpa calculations etc.

I never really understood what a magnet high school was.

Bernie, it basically is kind of like a selective college who won't admit anyone. You apply to it and you either get admitted or rejected depending on your state test scores, your application test scores, and your grades.

A lot of these public schools have an admittance rate lower than 10%. I go to one and our grading scale is harder as well as the classes compared to a regular high school. They tend to be much more competitive as well.
