Should I apply to Harvard as an economics major or computer science major? Which major gives me a better chance of getting in?

Neither since Harvard doesn’t admit by indicated area of study.

While some would say that neither is the better choice, I would say that both are the better choice.

Major does slightly impact your chances at admission. Same is true for all colleges that tell you that they do not look at your major. Take my comment with a grain of salt, however, and don’t lose sleep over it.

“Major does slightly impact your chances at admission” how to measure? H and peer schools consistently say that it’s a point of interest only since they know that a majority of entering freshmen will graduate with a different major than was was stated at appliction time. If the correlation is non-existant, why would they give any weight to what is stated by 17 year old students?

I stand by my assertion, repeating the colleges’ own line: major doesn’t matter.

But when you mention your intended major on your Harvard app, call it your “concentration.” :)

Whatever fits in better with what you have done.
