Hi, so I was hoping that some of you guys could give me some advice for what I will major in starting this next fall. I will be attending a school that I do not know for its strength in science or engineering, but I am coming in with ~60 credits and am effectively 5 classes from a math major.

So, I know that I will major in math, but will likely either double major with a double minor, or triple major with a possible minor. I was originally thinking of doing the triple with biology and chemistry, but some of the comments I have read have been especially disparaging of either of those majors. Is there a particular reason for this? Otherwise, does it make more sense to do something with physics? I am not particularly interested in engineering, but would be interested in hearing arguments for such majors.

What do you guys think?

How about computer science? Or economics/business?

If it is purely for academic interest, add whatever second major or minor you want.

For better job and career prospects (when combined with math), computer science, statistics, economics, and finance are likely to be the best, since they will give a head start on the typical job and career paths that math majors often end up in. Physics majors tend to have decent job and career prospects, but not so much in physics – the “surplus” tends to be hired into the same kind of jobs that math and statistics majors get hired into (though some do go into non-PE-licensed engineering jobs). Chemistry and biology majors have poor job and career prospects at the bachelor’s level, since there will be a flood of pre-meds who did not get into medical school competing for jobs.
