Major Coursework During Senior Year -- UNC Chapel Hill

Hi,

I am finishing up my freshman year at UNC Chapel Hill as Biology Major (B.S.) concentrating in Quantitative Biology. Yes, I want to go to medical school but, no, that is not why I am a Bio major. Not to give you my life story, but I have sincerely loved evolution and physiology from a very young age (although originally I planned to major in English).

This year, I took BIOL 101 and CHEM 101 & 102, and I’ve been very successful. Although, COVID-19 has made CHEM 102 more difficult.

Anyways, I am an obsessive planner and, in planning out my coursework for Quantitative Bio along with gen-ed requirements and an Anthropology minor, I found that I’m going to be taking pretty much all–ALL–biology classes my senior year. I don’t have a problem with that, but I was wondering: is this normal for science majors? Do B.S. students commonly take coursework solely within their major during their senior year?

I know UNC has limits on the amount of coursework you can count towards a B.A., but I couldn’t find anything that says I’m not allowed to take 4 biology courses my first and second semester along with some undergraduate research (should I choose to do that) in the department. Does anyone have some insight into this?
