I'm pretty much the only person constantly posting, but I'm paranoid. I have no idea what my major should be if I want to be a corporate lawyer! Everyone is saying do what you want to. Can someone just tell me a good major?! I don't know what I'd like to major in, and I'm not that picky.

uhhm...how's economics sound?

Something like government, econ, philosophy, or history. What year are you? Just major in whatever you like and whatever interests you. A major does not mean that all the courses you take will be limited to one subject. Try to take a reasonable amount of classes in each of the academic departments, as this will help you develop more skills and in some cases learn the background for different aspects of the law.

Glucose: In your previous posts, people discussed what is meant by a corporate lawyer. For the most part, the areas of corporate law have very little to do with college majors. Typically a detailed knowledge of certain government regulations is involved, which is not necessarily even taught in law school - you pick it up on the job.

If you want a little background, take some courses in economics, business law, or finance, if your school offers them. Otherwise, you can major in whatever you like, since the subject itself won't be relevant to the practice of corporate law. What will be relevant is your ability to deal with fine details of government regulations (could be Federal, state, county or city) and/or contracts, and to find ways for the company to attain its objectives. So development of your analytical abilities would be useful.

dadofsam: So are you saying I should major into something to the extent of Political Science?

I'm in the same boat heh...time to break out the darts and blindfold.

im thinking major in whatever you want, but youll probably want to take some government/political science and business/economics courses here and there to give you some basic background info (and to check your interests and strength in the field) before you start your corporate law studies at law school.

Glucose: major in whatever you want; however, if your question is whether political science has anything to do with specific government regulations, the answer is no. Political science deals with general aspects of governments, including political theory, not specific rules.

Major in something you like and will do good with because you don't want a crappy undergrad GPA
