Major differences between LACs and Universities: Which is better?

Ditto. (10 char)

Just to bump the thread and to get discussion going again. As a W&M alum, I just have to tout my school a little. I mentioned that it is considered a National U in the US News rankings, but has the feel of a LAC

From W&M website

"William and Mary's 12-to-1 student-faculty ratio is among the lowest of national public universities, a factor that helps strengthen the College's traditional commitment to teaching."

And

"William and Mary ranks first among American public universities in terms of commitment to undergraduate teaching, according to U.S. News and World Report. It is also the highest ranked small public university in the country."

So, there is at least one hybrid type school out there. I imagine Wake Forest and University of Richmond are similar as well. So the choice doesn't have to be big U vs small LAC.

Too bad it is seen as below washinton and lee, its endowment is horrible, and its social life is horrendous.

Wow, didn't expect to be flamed like that! One year at W&L costs as much as 3 at W&M.

I think it makes it more remarkable that W&M can succeed given the lack of funding the state provides.

Do you have firsthand knowledge of the social life? I certainly drank my fill of beer while I was there.

This year VA schools got much better state funding so things are improving.
