is biochemistry a major offered at cornell? collegeboard.com and usnews rankings say it is, but on the website it does not indicate biochemistry as a major. It is however lsited as a program of study, but im not sure what that means.

well it should be pretty obvious that if you wanted to study something as common as biochemistry then you could find a way to study it at cornell. there is a graduate program titled Biochemistry, Molecular, and Cell Biology (BMCB). if you want to study biochemistry at the undergrad level, choose a biology major and pick your concentration in biochemistry - this would consist of taking certain classes not all biology majors are required to take.

at Cornell, you could get a biochemistry major with latin minor and a concentration in real estate. its so open-ended!

what is this, a concentration in real estate? I would not call Cornell open-ended by any stretch!

here is the info on biochemistry. if you are interested in biochemistry, you will major in biology (which you can do in either Arts and Science or CALS, it is the same major in both colleges) and then you do a program of study in biochemistry. every biology major has to choose a program of study. a program of study is basically a collection of more specialized and often upper-level courses that allows you to focus with the rather broad field of biology. flngmnk’s link will show you what a biochemistry program of study entails. as you might expect, you have to take more chemistry than the average biology major.

also, while it’s not applicable to your coursework that there is a graduate program in biochemistry, it does indicate that there is plenty of biochemistry research happening at Cornell, and which means research positions for undergrads. it is very important that you gain lab experience, not matter what you plan to do after graduation, so it is a good sign that Cornell would have a wide variety of opportunities for you to get involved.
