Major vs Minor

What seems better to get a job in the cs/data science field-- a double major in applied math and data science, or an applied math major with a minor in computer science ?

CS is one of the top majors at Berkeley. Having CS on your resume from UCB will speak volumes.

I’m guessing that based on the wording of your post, you didn’t pass the gauntlet for LSCS. That’s fine, many don’t. What I would do is to double major in Applied Math and DS, and minor in CS. The CS minor really is 3, maybe even 2 classes extra from what you’ve already taken or will take with AM and DS. There’s a lot of demand out there for DS scientists and the like. You’re a bit screwed with getting priority for popular upper-division CS classes, but you should be able to get into most with enough patience and planning.
