Since applicants apply to a specific school, is it extremely hard to change majors then? Say if you wanted to major in English but became interested in the sciences. Would it be hard to make the change?

there are only two schools for traditional undergrads, columbia college and the engineering school.

if you’re switching majors within your own of the two schools, not a problem. you can’t switch between the two schools, however.

It’s difficult to go from liberal arts to engineering (or vice-versa), but it’s very easy to change majors within the school. Just decide whether you want to be an engineer before you apply. If you want to be an engineer, apply to the engineering school. Otherwise, apply to the College.

^^ That’s totally false.
You can switch schools it can be very difficult though. Most students apply for the Engineering School for their first year or Columbia College and stick with it, some find they want to major in something in the other school. They can, they just have to apply to that school. I’m not entirely sure how you apply you’d have to check their website.
