Hello all! Like any other incoming freshwoman, I’m anxiously getting to know about Bryn Mawr’s graduation requirements, courses, majors, etc. I have a few questions and would love to hear from my Mawrter friends and sisters.

My interests are Education, Psychology, and Economics. I am an international student and have studied none of these subjects in high school. I don’t plan to go for grad school after graduation and need to major in the ‘right’ subject to work in East Asia. Perhaps it’s a little early to talk about majors now, but I would really appreciate it if you could give some insights/ stories. For example, how practical is Psy? What Mawrters usually do with Psy majors (especially international students, since Psy major is not so popular in Asian countries)? How are the Econ and Psy Deparetments at Haverford compared to Bryn Mawr?

Also, any advice on choosing courses in the freshman and later will be greatly appreciated (eg courses that I shouldn’t miss, professors to avoid, please pm!! :">).

My questions are so general because I’m pretty cluecless now. Please help me and Thank YOuu <3

Congratulations on your decision! It’s a really exciting time, but remember to not get too anxious-- everyone is in the same boat. :)

You mentioned you weren’t planning on going to grad school, but you should know that Byn Mawr does offer some combined AB/MA programs allowing you to complete your Masters while an undergrad. This is a great option for really motivated students, especially in terms of being incredibly economic. [The Combined A.B. / M.A. Program](http://www.brynmawr.edu/deans/exp_acad_options/comb_AB_MA_prog.shtml)

My best advice is to take one class in several different departments you think you might be interested in majoring in. As a freshmen, even if you decide not to pursue that department, the class you took will still likely count for a graduation requirement. There will be an academic fair for all first-years to attend with boots and professors from every department. This is a great opportunity to learn more about course offerings and get inside scoop on great classes/professors.

Until you get to campus, maybe poke around the department websites, but don’t feel pressured to know exactly what you want to take. I had no idea what I wanted to take until I went to the academic fair.

Your Dean will be really helpful in assisting you with course selection for potential majors. My best advice to sit back, relax, and enjoy your summer! The end of August will be here sooner than you think.

Thank you englishivy! You’re so helpful, and your CC posts about BMC really help me during the application process!
Would love to hear from others too!!!
