Make it Miami and other questions

My daughter and I attended Make it Miami today. The program was very well run. My daughter thought it was a great day. She felt it was very well organized and everyone was very helpful. From the minute we pulled into the parking garage there were people greeting us and guiding us to various stops in the program. We got to eat in the dining hall, meet with students in her major and tour the dorms. She is interested in a theater minor and we attended an open house at the school of performing arts. The students and faculty were very helpful in helping her explore a theater minor. We went on a tour in fall so had already visited many spots on campus but this day allowed us time to go back to the rec center and ice rink and look around again. We finished the day by walking uptown, buying some Miami stuff and getting some cookies at Insomnia Cookies. She is debating between Ohio State and Miami. I think this day tipped things more towards Miami. Both great schools but her Red Hawk parents will be delighted to see her at Miami.

cooper62 My DD and I were at Make it Miami on Friday, too. Th Administration did a remarkable time with the program. Now we need to decide b/w Miami Farmers Business or Alabama Honors and Blount Scholars - help program.honors

dmsh68 Congrats on two great schools. Good luck making the decision. I know hard when you have a few nice offers on the table. My daughter thinks she wants to major in engineering so I was a little concerned with Miami as OSU is the higher ranked engineering school. All the engineering students we met at Miami had internships and the program is accredited so I’m a little less concerned. She said she felt very comfortable at Miami and when we’ve visited other colleges she can’t wait for the day to be over and to come home. With Miami she said she didn’t have that feeling about wanting to get home. She said she feels like she fits in and can see herself there. She didn’t want me to send in the deposit quite yet but after those comments I feel like she has made her decision. Despite the higher ranked engineering program at OSU I feel good about Miami if she is looking forward to attending.

Cooper62 That must be very reassuring for you. I have a feeling my DD is also leaning to Miami. I went to Alabama and we love football, but Miami is closer to us in VA and we will always be Alabama fans - if she chooses Miami then she can share another set of traditions to our family and get a great education.
