Making cheap calls inside and outside US!

Hello,

I would like to see if anyone knows a cheap way to call to India from USA and also inside US. I just arrived in California and I would like to call back my parents and friends. AT&T and Sprint have some crazy prices and I can't even afford to pay the big bills that they send me since I am a student.

Based on your experience do you know a service that can help me call back (but with a decent rate)?

Thank you!

Usually Phone Cards offer cheaper rates, you might want to find a phone card for india (Since I notice that certain cards have better rates for certain places). If you rather not deal with all the cards you might want to try a VOIP service like vonage, using the internet to carry the signal they manage to significantly cut costs so a call to india rans .14-.17 per/min (Which I think will be lowered as the industry gets more efficent, and the competition intensifies)

I second phone cards. They may be a pain, but they are so much cheaper than calling long distance or using an international cell. Definitely make sure you get a phone card that will reach India, as I've found most only call to Europe. If you do a google search for "international phone cards" you'll find some options.

I've had good service to India with Reliance; very clear connections, with little/no static. You can buy time in $10 chunks or more. I think the rate is around $0.13 - $0.14/minute. Their website is

(Mods - hope you are OK with this..)

You might want to try an inexpensive card through www.speedypin.com

to see if it's reliable.

Also, the larger US post offices sell global phone cards. They work very well, but might be a little more expensive.

www.callingcards.com try them.

skype if they have an internet connection

A friend of mine told me about this site http://www.calltalknow.com. It's 1.4c/min for domestic calls so it's gooood for my pocket too :) I looked at the other companies rates but are slightly higher. It's good because are 4 types of cards for each country. I choose Hello because it fits best my needs. Also found some interesting info here.
Thx.

9 cents a minute to India, no connection charge or anything like that. I use it for calling the UK and it's very good. It's like a phonecard but without the physical card.

And if you use my link we both get 20 minutes free ;) :)
