We did a myriad of visits to one area of the country during spring break of junior year and several summer visits. However, as we reached the end of summer our student began to take an interest in some schools that are not near our this child's boarding school.

So, with senior year being busy with one last round of the SAT, sports, applications and essays, and of course school work...what is the best way to do college visits?

Use the short fall break and visit just 1 or 2 that seem top preferences?

Use random weekends and hope to a few schools on Saturdays?

Forget it...let them meet reps if they come to their campus, but otherwise let it go and wait and see if they get in to visit?

Take a few days off from school and really try and get to a few college while they are in session (to see the dynamics of campus, sit in on a class, etc.)?

Just curious how other senior parents face this. I thought we were ahead of the game with so many junior year and summer visits. But now there are a few school our kid seems to be interested in that have not been visited at all. Sigh.

Finally, if the visits are far, have any of you flown your child out alone to do the tour or visit or do you fly from your home to meet them there? We don't have unlimited resources for this by any means. The BS will be doing a few visits but none are colleges our child is interested in. Of course, there will be a ton of college's coming to the campus. Our those sessions enough to decided about applying without visiting?
