male vs. female admission

Is there any difference in ease of admission between men and women? Does the academy prefer men over women for admission or vice versa?

No…

No, yes.
Qualifications are the same for females and males. You don’t get extra points for being female - although females have been encouraged in the past to apply to boost the numbers. Right now, the numbers of females applying is just about right.

As long as females are restricted from accessing into a Combat Arms branch - female cadetships will be limited to about 20%. Actually no class has been 20% female - class of 2014 was 19% female admitted. This was probably the highest - other recent classes were about 15% female.

West Point is mandated by law to commission 80% of it’s male graduates into a Combat Arms branch. As such they need a certain number of males to fulfill the Army’s officer requirements.

To date - West point has not limited the numbers of females - that I know of - but theoretically it could be an issue. some day.
