Taking a gap year? Z Lister??
Not Z-list… Z-list hasn’t even been decided… that happens after May 1. She was admitted regular decision. She probably just wants to stay in DC until the end of her father’s presidency.
Students who take a gap year generally have a plan of action which does not involve living at home with their parents. I would think Malia would use part of the year at least to travel and grow as a person rather than just staying in DC.
I really wanted her to choose Stanford.
What’s a Z-list @harvardandberkeley ?
Hanging out at the White House and traveling with ma and pa would probably be awesome as a gap year, eh?
I think the opportunities for 6 months in the White House could exceed most gap year plans. I assume she will do something more typical for a gap year after they leave the WH in January.
What is wrong with daily mail? Genuine question.
There’s nothing wrong with it, per se, but it is a tabloid, and is not necessarily the most unbiased in its reporting. In terms of where one would go to if searching for trustworthy info, Brits would probably “trust” The Times more. Rather like NY Post vs. NY Times.
The two younger Gore daughters were at Harvard when I was there. I saw them both around campus frequently, and never knowingly saw their Secret Service details. The officers did an amazing job blending in.
Curious, would the chance of acceptance with her be higher than anyone else? Harvard is obviously a high-reach school for anyone, but then again, she is the daughter of the President of the United States.
Without a doubt. Celebrities and children of celebrities are the golden ticket. Of course, that only gets them so far. If Malia’s (or Natalie Portman or Emma Watson, etc.) do not have stats within the range, an Ivy education would not be in their future. Plus once in, they still need to do the work or they won’t be around much longer (cf. Amy Carter @ Brown)
Ah if only my parent was the president. then I could go to Harvard too.
According to a friend who graduated in the same class, she’s Harvard worthy.
I’m sure having Barry O (Key and Peele reference, anyone?) as her dad helped a teeny bit.
Her dad was law review editor. I don’t think he will ever get appointed to the supreme court though. I think he is retired
@acomfysofa I don’t think it is at all surprising that any university would seek to attract the very bright child of the President (and she did attend one of the best high schools in the country). Certainly she will have had some very unique personal experiences. I’d also mention that this is a VERY exceptional case. Not too many kids from Presidential families applying.
